The TT Weekly Blog 26th July 17

Editor @DomRoman is moving out of summer mode and eyeing up the key discussion points as we get nearer to the big kick-off

1 – Friendlies

What are we to cling to from the summer friendlies 2017 (with only Truro left to play)? Well in the words of the late Paul Daniels – “not a lot”. Most of the lads are A) Getting to know each other and B) Getting their fitness levels up. I did see promising signs last week versus Plymouth of a team coming together, and that was without Gowling and Pitman seeing any action.

Of the new signings Klukowski looked the part; composed at the centre back even though he is a midfielder and Jake Gosling will definitely bring more skill and inventiveness to the United line-up. Character wise this squad looks sterner and should be better in the face of adversity – which is for the best considering our tough start to 2017-18. Can we score the goals? A lot rests on the Ruairi and JP combo, whilst the fitness of Luke is always a worry – though he looks in great shape.

The Truro game will most likely see Nico get his strongest team on the park, hopefully including injury doubt Davis and returning loan star Jordan Lee. Time to step it up a notch, after two dull games at Weymouth and Plymouth Parkway we need to see more va va voom!

2 – Jordan Lee

Jordan returning is simply splendid news! Initially he may have struggled to adapt last season on arrival at Plainmoor, but by the end of the campaign he was brilliant. Pushing forward with barrel loads of energy and tracking back with gusto, just what we needed in a desperate time for the club.

Jordan gives us more options down the right hand side as he can play right back or right-wing, plus it’ll be no surprise if he moves around the midfield as the season goes on. Nice to get some goodwill from Bournemouth after the O’Kane payments shenanigans, don’t get me started on that again….

3 – Rory Fallon

The talk has been about getting a target man for a while now, but not necessarily a 35 year-old ice cream seller! The big man has a great CV, but his arrival does not fill me with hope. His appearances so far have shown the ability is still there to win balls in the air (he is very tall though!), but with little mobility and ageing legs I’m not sure how much Fallon can contribute.

We are getting close to season start now and it would be no surprise if the New Zealander is given a deal for at least the start of 2017-18. He’ll be a different option to throw on near the end of games that’s for sure, and it may be have to trust Kevin’s judgement on this one!

4 – Highway to Hele

The last issue of H2H (for the time being) is out this week. When Editor Rob got it going a few years ago, I think he was unsure of who would be interested in contributing or indeed buying the publication. That worry was soon banished! I jumped at the chance to be involved, and eventually a number of Gulls fans did the same thing.

Since then Rob has done brilliantly to improve the zine issue by issue and give it a proper identity; so it’ll be sad not to have any more arriving through the letterbox. Don’t miss out on buying a copy, it’s sure to be cracking read as always.

5 – TT Season Preview

TT has been a little quiet over the summer, time to re-charge and watch some cricket or tennis! Well no more, as I am itching for the season to start. Next week we’ll have our Season Previews building up to the Tranmere game. Contributor Luke Hunter will be giving us a hand (he’s good like that), so look out for it. Then of course once the season gets under way there will be the usual match reports and regular blogs, plus other stuff for your enjoyment!

PS When are the season tickets ready for collection?!?
